Jodhpur Marwar Shaili Miniature Painting is an original Marwar style painting depicting royal portraits and court scenes, hand-painted by Artshaili artists in stone colours, 6.8×4.9 in. It is a genuine handmade artwork, not a print, so every brushstroke is unique and small variations from the photos are natural.

The meaning of royal portraits and court scenes in Indian art

Royal portraits and court scenes were at the heart of Indian court painting. Rulers commissioned paintings of themselves in profile, at their darbar, hunting or celebrating festivals, and these works now offer a vivid window into the costumes, jewellery and etiquette of the past.

About the Marwar style

Marwar painting, from the courts of Jodhpur, Nagaur and Bikaner, is known for vigorous lines, striking colour contrasts and proud royal portraits, with Bikaner showing strong Mughal refinement. Read our guide to Rajasthani painting schools.
