How it works

Submit Artwork for Review

Email clear, high-quality images of your painting to infoartshaili@gmail.com. Our team will evaluate the artwork for originality, style, and quality. You will receive an approval or rejection email based on the review.

Pay Listing Fee (₹999 per painting)

If your artwork is approved, we will send you a link to pay the listing fee.

After payment, your painting becomes eligible for lifetime listing on Artshaili.

Send Complete Artwork Details

Once your artwork is approved and the listing fee is paid, you can share all required painting details – such as the title, style, size, medium, colors, your base selling price, and your artist information (name, city, and contact). These details help us list your artwork accurately on Artshaili.

Editing & Listing

Our design team will edit your artwork’s images so they match the aesthetic and style of our existing gallery.

Your artwork will then be uploaded and displayed in a standardized, professional format.

A 20% commission will be applied to your selected base price before listing.

Order Placement & Notification

When a customer places an order, you will receive a notification via email or WhatsApp.

You must then prepare and ship the artwork securely to the buyer.

Shipping & Delivery

  • Artists must provide free shipping across India.
  • For international orders, additional shipping fees are charged to the buyer.
  • Secure, damage-proof packaging is required to ensure safe delivery.

Payment Release

After the artwork is delivered successfully, your payment (your price minus 20% commission) will be transferred to your bank account within 24 hours.

Handling Returns & Issues

If a damaged or incorrect painting is delivered to the customer, you will be required to resend the correct artwork. Additionally, if a buyer chooses to return a painting, they will be responsible for managing the return process on their own. Photograph your work well, write full descriptions, set a consistent price and list it on one or two channels, such as a curated platform like Artshaili, a global art marketplace or your own Instagram. On Artshaili, email photos of your paintings for review to get started.

Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp let you sell without listing fees, but you handle enquiries, payment, packing and shipping yourself. Artshaili charges a one-time listing fee of ₹999 per painting and a 20% commission on sales, and handles presentation, promotion and customer support.

Combine material costs and time, keep a consistent rate by size (many artists use a price per square inch), and compare with similar original work. Keep the same price on every channel.

It depends on your turnover and how and where you sell. Rules for selling through online platforms can differ from selling directly, so check your situation with a tax professional before you start.

How to sell paintings online in India: step by step

Whether you paint traditional miniatures, modern abstracts or portraits, the route to your first online sale looks much the same. These are the steps most working artists follow.

  1. Choose what to sell first. Start with 5 to 10 finished, original works in a consistent style. A coherent small collection sells better than a mixed portfolio.
  2. Photograph every painting properly. Shoot in daylight, straight on, without glare, then add a close-up of the brushwork and one photo on a wall for scale. Buyers cannot touch the work, so photos do the selling.
  3. Write a complete description. Title, size, medium, surface, framed or unframed, year, and two or three lines about the subject or the story behind it.
  4. Set your price. Decide a base price you are happy to receive and keep similar works at similar prices on every channel (see pricing tips below).
  5. Pick one or two channels. A curated platform such as Artshaili, a global marketplace, or your own Instagram. The comparison further down this page will help you choose.
  6. Prepare for shipping. Have packing materials ready before your first order, and know your courier options and delivery times.
  7. Keep going. Add new work regularly, share it on social media, and ask happy buyers for a review. Consistency matters more than any single listing.

On Artshaili, steps 3 to 5 are handled with you: you send photos for review, and once approved and listed, our team edits the images, presents the work in our gallery format and promotes it on our social media.

Where to sell paintings online in India: your options compared

Tips to sell more paintings online

  • Photograph well: shoot in natural daylight, straight on, plus a close-up of brushwork and one photo on a wall for scale.
  • Describe it fully: size, medium, surface, framed or unframed, year and the story behind the work.
  • Price consistently: similar sizes and media should sit in a similar price range across all channels.
  • Offer a certificate of authenticity for original works.
  • Pack carefully: rigid boards, corner protectors and waterproof wrapping prevent damage claims.

Selling traditional work? Buyers on Artshaili actively look for Indian miniature paintings, modern art and handmade portraits. See what sells, then send your work for review.

How to price your paintings

Pricing is the question artists ask most, and there is no single formula. A few common approaches help you land on a fair, consistent number:

  • Cost plus time: add up materials (paper or canvas, colours, framing) and multiply the hours spent by an hourly rate you consider fair.
  • Size-based pricing: many artists set a rate per square inch and multiply by the painting’s area, so a larger work in the same style always costs more. It keeps prices consistent across a collection.
  • Compare similar work: look at prices for originals of a similar size, medium and detail level by artists at a similar stage of their career.
  • Stay consistent: never sell the same work cheaper on one channel than another. Collectors notice, and it undermines trust.

Remember to account for platform fees. On Artshaili you set your own base price, pay a one-time listing fee of ₹999 per painting, and a 20% commission applies only when the painting sells.

Packing and shipping a painting safely

Damage in transit is the most common reason for returns, so good packing protects both your reputation and your earnings.

  • Works on paper: place the painting in a clear sleeve, sandwich it between two rigid boards slightly larger than the work, and tape the edges. Never fold or roll miniatures on handmade paper.
  • Canvas: cover the surface with glassine or acid-free paper, add foam corner protectors, wrap in bubble wrap and box it with padding on all sides.
  • Framed work: tape an X across the glass, protect the corners, and use a double-walled box.
  • Waterproof the parcel with an outer plastic layer, and mark it “Fragile: Artwork”.
  • Record the packing. Photos or a short video of the work and the packed parcel help resolve any damage claim quickly.

Artists selling on Artshaili ship directly to the buyer, with free shipping across India; international buyers pay the extra shipping charge. Read our shipping policy for details.
