Ram Laxman Painting in Basohli Shaili is an original Basohli style painting depicting Ramayana, hand-painted by Artshaili artists in stone colours, 8×12 in. It is a genuine handmade artwork, not a print, so every brushstroke is unique and small variations from the photos are natural.
The meaning of Ramayana in Indian art
Scenes from the Ramayana, the epic of Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana, have been painted across India for centuries. They celebrate duty, devotion and the victory of good over evil, from Rama’s exile in the forest to his return to Ayodhya.
About the Basohli style
Basohli, named after a town in the Jammu hills, is one of the earliest and boldest Pahari schools, from the late 17th century. Look for strong primary colours, flat red or yellow backgrounds, large intense eyes and jewellery that once sparkled with beetle-wing fragments. Its favourite subjects are Radha and Krishna and scenes of devotion. Read our guide to Pahari paintings.
