The meaning of elephants in Indian art
Elephants symbolise strength, wisdom, royalty and good fortune in Indian culture. Court painters, especially in the Kota and Mughal schools, loved painting royal elephants, processions and dramatic elephant fights.
About Pichwai-style art
Pichwai is a devotional painting tradition from Nathdwara in Rajasthan, made to hang behind the idol of Shrinathji. Its royal motifs, such as decorated elephants, cows, lotuses and rich borders, are now loved as decor across India. This piece brings a royal Pichwai elephant motif to a small round wall plate, hand-painted by Artshaili artists in natural stone colours on a high-density pine MDF wood slice.
